How the heck should I bet using A+ Graded Analysis????

We've been asked that question so many times by so many people.  There is no easy answer and there is certainly no one "correct" way to approach this game. Firstly, let me say that A+ is not a "black box" and anyone who tries to sell you something advertised as such is flat out full of horse doo doo.  The A+ Graded Analysis is meant to be a betting guide.  We have programmed our software to set probabilities based upon past results.  Our data base now stands at close to 110,000 races run over the past 11 years at every major and minor track in North America.  Our probabilities aggregately add up to 100% as they well should. The trick to winning in this game is to find the horses that are going off at higher odds than they should - EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT THE TOP PICK! Here are some betting strategies used by some successful people using the A+ Graded Analysis. In all the following examples, horse 1 will correspond to the A+ top choice, horse 2 to the second choice, etc.

Exacta Strategy #1
If you make a $1.00 exacta of 1-2 with 1-2-3-4 it only costs you $6.00.  To win this bet, one of the top 2 choices must win the race and one of the remaining 3 horses from the top 4 choices must run second.  You can hit with 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 2-1, 2-3 and 2-4.  What really makes this an attractive bet is that many times, that 4th horse goes off at high odds and if it runs second to one of the top 2 choices, you can expect a nice payoff.  A 3 horse box of 1-2-3 also costs $6.00 but doesn't cover the situation where the 4th horse places.  These strategies are good to use when you call in all your bets at once and don't get a chance to see the odds board.

Exacta Strategy #2
If you are on track and able to follow the odds, a good exacta strategy is to box the top 2 choices with the best overlay.  Let's say that our 5th choice has A+ computed odds of 8-1 but is going off at 20-1.  In that situation, I'd box the 1-2-5 and hope that the 5 gets in there somehow for a nice payoff.

Win Bet Strategy #1
Always - and I do mean ALWAYS - bet an overlay.  A+ is very accurate in placing the race winner among its top 4 choices.  Some of our customers automatically bet the top choice to win and I try to discourage them from doing that.  But the ones who do seem to be happy with that type of strategy and I get tons of email from these people telling me how successful they are betting this way.  My answer is always the same to these folks. I tell them that in the long run, they are missing out on some very high priced winners.  An attractive strategy (on track only) is to bet as close to post time as possible on the horse (or horses) among the top 4 picks that are the biggest overlays. An A+ 5-1 horse going off at 20-1 is a 4x overlay.  An A+ 7-2 horse going off at 7-1 is a 2x overlay. Of course, when there are a lot of first time starters in a particular race, the odds are not as accurate as we'd like and we adjust the size of our bets accordingly. But generally, try to back a horse going off at higher odds than A+ computes.

A "New" Strategy I just concocted
This is one I have recently thought up and have had excellent success with. I can't get to the track as often as I'd like so I find myself calling in my bets on one of the 3 telephone accounts I have. I download the offical track program from the Thoroughbred Sports Network, TSN (see the link we provide on our "Other Racing Sites" page). I then consider the top 4 choices only. I look for morning line odds of 8-1 or higher. I make a straight win bet on ALL such horses. Usually, there is 1 or 2 horses in a race fitting that condition. Very seldom, there are 3 or 4 horses fitting that condition and often, there are no horses fitting that condition (in which case I usually pass the race). When there are 2 horses, I bet them both to win and box them in the exacta. When there are 3 or 4, I usually skip the win bet but box them all in the exacta AND trifecta. I also key such horses in daily doubles and pick-3's. I only started using this strategy in early November, 97 and have shown tremendous profits. Often times, I only get 1 winner but it pays enough to show a profit on the card. On November 19, I had a $49 winner at Penn National and would have collected on a $1,000 double if the second part of my bet came in (but ran third and payed a nice show price. I see that there is the potential here for putting 2 longshots together and really cleaning up. I will follow this strategy closely and try and report on its status over the weeks and months to come. Well, that's it for now. Please feel free to email me your own personal favorite betting strategies and I'll try to post them here.

An email from DHS:
I tried your new system, except I used 6-1 vice 8-1. Picked up winners this past weekend at GGX and HOL for $41. $61., $79., numerous high teens and low 20's. I.m tracking - short sample, but hit 20 of 90 plays since Wed for $2.45 returned for every 1 invested. Avg winning payoff is $24.28. Thanks.....
